Albion have clarity in the Championship relegation fight after Leicester City lost their appeal against a six-point deduction, ExpressAndStar.com reports.
An independent commission upheld the English Football League sanction on Wednesday, with five games remaining, so the punishment stands in full.
Leicester sit in the final relegation spot after a slump that followed February’s decision over profit and sustainability breaches across a three-year cycle to June 2024.
The club were initially charged by the Premier League in May 2025 in relation to the 2023/24 Championship campaign, which ended in promotion.
Albion, revived by a six-match unbeaten sequence under James Morrison, are two places and four points ahead of the Foxes.
Leicester have managed only one league win since a last-gasp victory over Albion that proved Ryan Mason’s final game in charge.
Gary Rowett was appointed in February to spark a recovery but has overseen just one victory in nine. Portsmouth are one point above Leicester and three behind Albion, and have a game in hand at home to second-placed Ipswich next Tuesday.
