Leicester City can act in the free-agent market as 2026/27 financial year begins and out-of-contract players become unattached. Relegated to League One, the Foxes have yet to make a signing, and today confirmed Bilal El Khannouss’ exit.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, a major squad overhaul is planned before the new season kicks off in just over seven weeks, after a quiet first month of the window.

Conor Chaplin and Myles Peart-Harris have already been linked. Archie Collins has left Peterborough United and is touted for the King Power, with Sheffield Wednesday also keen. The all-round midfielder fits Russell Martin’s profile, and uncertainty over Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp makes midfield additions almost guaranteed.

Will Smallbone, who worked under Martin during Southampton’s promotion, spent last season on loan at Millwall but injuries curtailed him. On paper he would be a statement pick, and a reunion with Martin would bolster midfield options.

Goals are a priority and Ross Stewart offers them. He scored 40 for Sunderland, including 24 in League One. He added 11 for Southampton before his release. A fresh challenge could include Leicester in the third tier.

With Max Lowe signing an extension at Sheffield Wednesday, the left-back search could pivot to Charlie Taylor. He made 30 appearances for Southampton last term and was signed by Martin in 2024 after promotion to the Premier League.

Jed Wallace has left West Brom on a free and offers versatility across the frontline. After years with the Baggies and Millwall, he would show intent.
