It’s been a mixed start for the Canaries’ new boss since he arrived from Bristol City

Norwich City manager Liam Manning will have one thing on his wishlist for his upcoming games with his new club: a home win.

The 40-year-old arrived at Carrow Road in June this year, replacing the outgoing Johannes Hoff Thorup, who was sacked after a poor run of games towards the end of last season.

It’s been a mixed start for Manning at Norwich, but so far all his most positive work has come on the road, not ideal for a new manager trying to make an impression on a new fanbase.

If he’s to have any hope of keeping Canaries fans off his back after that turbulent start, he needs to get a win in front of them, on their own turf, but chances are sparse as we head into winter.

Norwich currently sit in 15th place, having accrued just seven points from their opening six games of the season.

However, each time Manning’s side have been at home so far this season, it’s been a loss.

When a new manager arrives in town, it’s crucial that they get the fans on board, because a poor relationship between the two parties can quickly turn sour and force an incumbent out if the tide of opinion turns.

The way to do that is simple, but not easy: win at home. If the majority of fans are unable to watch the new manager’s football win games of football, there will be little to get behind, and tempers will begin to flare if form doesn’t improve.

Liam Manning’s current record leaves a lot to be desired

Norwich’s only wins so far have come against Watford, Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers, all three currently occupying places in the bottom half, with all three victories coming away from home, along with a draw against Coventry City.

They have been accompanied by home losses against Millwall, an admittedly high-flying Middlesbrough and fellow strugglers Wrexham.

Even their home EFL Cup draw against Southampton, who still look to be working things out under Will Still, ended in a punishing 3-0 defeat.

It’s a duck Manning will want to break sooner rather than later, before the record garners any more attention, but opportunities to correct his course are sparse.

Manning will want as many opportunities as he can get to turn things around at Carrow Road, but unfortunately, the schedule is against him on that front.

From now until the start of November, the Canaries have just two home games lined up, against West Bromwich Albion and Manning’s former side Bristol City, which will carry plenty of added emotion and intrigue to start with.

What’s worse is that both visitors have had great starts to the season, with the Robins just one point outside of the automatic promotion spots, and West Brom level on points with Coventry, just outside the play-off places.
