Liverpool require a Champions League comeback at Anfield as Arne Slot’s side look to overturn their first-leg defeat at Galatasaray and save their season from sliding off the rails.
The criticism of last season’s Premier League champions has intensified following last week’s 1-0 defeat in Istanbul, which was followed by the dropping of precious points in a poor 1-1 draw at home to struggling Tottenham on Sunday.
The boos which greeted full-time in that game signalled the pressure Slot would be under should Liverpool fail to progress from the last-16 and respond to Mario Lemina’s first-leg winner –although the Reds have previous for turning European ties around at Anfield. Can they reverse the pattern of conceding late goals and put in a performance to be proud of under the lights? It could be the catalyst they need to turn their season around.
It would be defending champions Paris Saint-Germain next up, incidentally, for the winner of tonight’s tie. They were in uber impressive form against Chelsea last night.

Last night saw both Manchester City and Chelsea suffer heavy Champions League aggregate defeats to Real Madrid and PSG. Does that put the Premier League at risk of a slimmed-down representation in next year’s competition? Not necessarily - Will Castle has your guide to Uefa coefficients:

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has conceded he "must have done a lot of things wrong" to provoke the ire of Anfield supporters, as he seeks to mend relations with frustrated fans.
The Dutchman faced a public backlash for the first time since his arrival in summer 2024, with the team booed off the pitch after conceding a 90th-minute equaliser to Tottenham on Sunday.
While discontent has simmered on social media throughout the season, last weekend marked the first occasion home fans expressed their disapproval so overtly.

The atmosphere will be fascinating tonight after Liverpool were booed at the end of the Tottenham game. Galatasaray will surely feel if they can get a goal early, Anfield may start to turn on the home team - but Dominik Szoboszlai has issued a rallying cry. Richard Jolly reports:

Jamie Carragher has questioned whether Arne Slot remains the right man to lead Liverpool following their “awful performance” in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The reigning champions squandered an opportunity to move up to fourth in the Premier League table after Dominik Szobsoszlai’s first-half free-kick was cancelled out by Richarlison’s late equaliser.
It was the third late equaliser Liverpool have allowed this season, in addition to five injury-time winners conceded, as relegation-threatened Spurs avoided defeat for the first time in six matches. Home supporters booed at full-time, a reaction that the head coach said was “completely normal.”
