Lyon express interest in problematic Juventus asset Openda | OneFootball

Recent reports claim that Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais have expressed an interest in offering a new home to Juventus flop Lois Openda, who is already proving a difficult asset to shift.

Lyon register interest in Openda from Juventus

Juventus are expected to reshuffle their attacking department during the summer transfer window: Dusan Vlahovic’s contract expires at the end of June and the club’s other centre-forward options, Openda, Jonathan David and Arkadiusz Milik combined for just seven league goals between them in 2026-27.

Openda was perhaps the biggest disappointment of Juve’s 2025 summer transfer window. The Belgian, who is not at the 2026 World Cup, scored just one goal from 24 outings in Serie A this season despite signing on loan with an obligation to buy in a total €44m deal.

With the obligation to buy fee included, Openda was the most expensive arrival in Serie A during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Given his form and the fee that Juventus spent on his signing, and with a contract that runs until the summer of 2030, selling Openda outright this summer is not expected to be a straightforward task.

However, according to recent updates from Gianluca Di Marzio, there is still some interest in Openda across Europe, especially from Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Di Marzio claims that Lyon have expressed an interest in signing Openda, as have Eintracht Frankfurt, Monaco and Nottingham Forest to a lesser extent.

Formal talks have not yet taken place, but it is expected that if Lyon were to proceed into negotiations with Juventus, the two clubs would be discussing a loan deal with an obligation or more likely an option to buy.
