Santos have suspended the display of master sponsor Novibet after a federal betting measure was signed, president Marcelo Teixeira said in a post. He added the club are complying with the new rules while national discussions continue.

The situation has shifted quickly, with the provisional measure still requiring Congressional approval amid legal questions. The club are reviewing their contract with Novibet while adapting to the rules.

The measure imposes a nationwide ban on online casinos and betting houses. Platforms cannot operate, though sites will remain open until 23:59 on 5 October for customers to withdraw balances. It will only become definitive if approved by Congress, which has roughly four months to vote.

To avoid a termination during legal uncertainty, Santos and Novibet have frozen the deal, pausing payments and brand exposure. Shirts will no longer carry Novibet, and the N used as an allusion to the betting firm in players’ names will be removed.

Santos TV Novibet is set to revert to Santos TV, with sponsor imagery and advertising halted. If Congress does not confirm the measure, both parties could resume the sponsorship.

While awaiting clarity, the club’s board and marketing team are seeking short-term partners. Novibet was unveiled as master sponsor in February with a deal through 2028, worth R$ 35 million per year plus incentives.
