Manchester United’s hopes of signing West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville are about to be given a massive lift.

Aside from Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham Hotspur, United were also keen to raid West Ham for the Dutch winger.

With Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho no longer at the club, Marcus Rashford remains the only natural winger at United.

However, with uncertainty over where Rashford will play his football next season, the Red Devils have drawn up plans to bring in a natural left winger.

Summerville a top target

Several fine left wingers have been linked, but Summerville has ultimately emerged as the top target.

The thought of signing the 24-year-old became exciting given how superb he was for the Netherlands at the World Cup (two goals and two assists in four games), yet what made it even more exciting was the news that he has a £40 million relegation release clause.

Transfer held back

Premier League proven and in fine form on the world stage, with a tempting release clause to boot, United have every reason to strike for his services, yet they have still not done so. Instead, it is other suitors, such as AS Roma, trying to strike a deal.

It has been suggested that United cannot move for Summerville while Rashford remains at the club; he needs to make way first.

Meanwhile, moving Rashford on has proven tricky. Barcelona, his preferred destination, were not keen to commit to a permanent transfer, and their signings of Anthony Gordon and Kareem Adeyemi suggest they no longer require him.

The Mancunian will therefore have to consider other options, though his other suitors have not been pressing hard for a deal.

That, however, may be about to change, according to Fanatik.

Fenerbahce want Marcus Rashford

The Turkish outlet reports that Fenerbahce are preparing to launch a serious offensive that could shake up the race for Rashford.

They report: “Fenerbahçe has no intention of stopping its transfer activity. The Yellow Canaries’ new target is Marcus Rashford…

“After finalising deals with Greenwood, football director Cihan Kamer and football manager Oğuz Çetin moved from Marseille to Manchester. It has been learned that official negotiations with Manchester United for Rashford will begin soon.”

Fenerbahce’s determination could well be welcomed by INEOS.

Even if Rashford is unlikely to agree to join them, it could spook his other suitors into pushing harder for his signature.

Rashford out, Summerville in

Tottenham Hotspur or Aston Villa may look to rival the Turkish giants for his signature, with £40 million surely enough to win this race.

A transfer battle could ultimately see Rashford seal a move away, and once that happens, it could pave the way for a United move for Summerville.

In the end, it could be a case of Rashford out, Summerville in.
