Martinelli earns maiden Brazil call-up under Ancelotti | OneFootball

Fluminense midfielder Martinelli has earned his first Brazil call-up under head coach Carlo Ancelotti, replacing injured Chelsea forward João Pedro.

"Thiago, who worked with him at Milan, talked to me and passed on some things. This moment is very important in my career and I hope to help the coach and all our teammates on the national team a lot." He told CBF TV.

"Every player wants to wear the national team badge. We have to feel privileged and give our lives for the national team."

The 24-year-old rose from Fluminense’s academy in 2017 and has since lifted two Carioca Championships, the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana.

He was an unused substitute in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Australia in Townsville. Brazil face Australia again on Tuesday, then India on Saturday, and he aims to earn his first senior cap during this international window.
