Mason Greenwood has left Marseille for Fenerbahçe in Türkiye on a deal to 2030, stripping OM of last season’s foremost attacking threat. His exit follows two prolific campaigns that made him the side’s reference point.
According to L'Équipe, he scored 22 in 2024-25, 21 in Ligue 1, as co-top scorer with Ousmane Dembélé. He then hit 26 in 2025-26, including 16 in Ligue 1 and three in the Champions League, plus seven league assists and an UNFP nomination. He was directly involved in 36% of OM’s goals.
The €40m move comes as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also leaves, after 14 goals and nine assists last season. New coach Bruno Genesio must recalibrate, though he recently finished on the podium with an attack that scored 52, only eighth-best in Ligue 1, at LOSC.
Genesio should be able to count on Igor Paixao and possibly Amine Gouiri, who hit 15 Ligue 1 goals for him at Rennes in 2022-23. Gouiri has suitors in Italy and Germany, yet his profile is valued at the Commanderie. Expect a focus on solidarity and balance.
Roberto de Zerbi admired the 24-year-old but repeatedly chased his nonchalance, demanding defensive work. Medhi Benatia soon tired of him and criticised his daily attitude, yet worked with Grégory Lorenzi on the sale while the player’s lawyer and father, Andrew, secured a rich Fenerbahçe deal to pressure OM. Lorenzi said options were limited and talks aimed at a compromise with a player who wanted out.
