Matias Soulé has cast fresh doubt on his Roma future, telling reporters, "Will I stay? Honestly, I don’t know," after landing for pre-season in Italy. He said he had only just arrived and declined to address fans.
According to Sunderland Echo, the uncertainty has coincided with Sunderland interest as Régis Le Bris targets reinforcement on the right.
Initial enquiries from Wearside were described as tentative, but the situation is said to have moved on. His agent Martin Guastadisegno has reportedly travelled to England for talks with Sunderland and Fulham.
Roma are understood to want around €35million, roughly £30million at current rates. His book value is put near €15.5million, so a sale at that price would yield a sizeable profit.
Separate reports suggest an approach from Sunderland would be seriously considered, with the player attracted by the Premier League. Sunderland can also offer Europa League football after finishing seventh last season, although Fulham and others could compete for his signature.
Soulé joined Roma from Juventus two summers ago for an initial €26million, about £22million, after Roma beat Leicester City to him.
He made 41 appearances last term, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists as Roma secured a Champions League return. Sunderland transfer chief Florent Ghisolfi previously helped bring him to Roma, a connection that could aid any move.
