Matt Gill has reflected on his short stint at West Bromwich Albion after helping James Morrison guide the club away from trouble, while his plans beyond this season remain unclear.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Gill was credited with a major part in the upturn during Morrison’s interim run, which included a long unbeaten sequence that secured Championship survival. That form saw club legend Morrison handed the job on a permanent basis after serving as interim three times in 12 months.

Gill arrived after Morrison’s first game as interim manager. The former EFL midfielder had been first-team coach at Ipswich Town and has worked with Russell Martin at MK Dons, Swansea, Southampton and Rangers. Several Albion players spoke of his influence in the final months.

After his permanent appointment, Morrison said he would like to keep Gill on his backroom staff, while stressing decisions would be reviewed after the season.

Gill’s future has been debated by supporters, with Martin linked with Watford and talk over whether the coach might rejoin him if that move materialises. There has been no confirmation that he will remain at Albion next season.

Gill described an enjoyable and rewarding nine-week, 11-game spell, praised the collective effort across the run-in, and said he was pleased to have played a small part.
