Matt Gill has reflected on his role in West Bromwich Albion’s Championship survival, with his future at the club still to be decided. The coach said in a LinkedIn post that he was pleased to have played a small part during a nine-week, 11-game stint.
James Morrison oversaw a long unbeaten run that secured safety, and was then appointed manager on a permanent basis after serving as interim boss three times in 12 months.
Gill was brought in after Morrison’s first match as interim. The former EFL midfielder, previously first-team coach at Ipswich Town, has worked alongside Russell Martin at MK Dons, Swansea, Southampton and Rangers, and several Albion players highlighted his impact late in the campaign.
After landing the job full time, Morrison would like to keep Gill on his backroom team, with staff decisions to be assessed after the season.
Fans have speculated about Gill’s next move, given his past with Martin and with the former Southampton boss linked with Watford. There has been no confirmation that Gill will remain at Albion next season.
