Filipe Luís says Paris Brunner’s throat-slice celebration has been addressed internally, calling it “a topic this week” at Monaco.

According to Get French Football News, Brunner made the gesture in front of the RC Strasbourg Alsace fans after levelling on Saturday. Post-match, he said home supporters had targeted his family, that he did not intend disrespect and that the act was misunderstood, adding he meant to signal the game was done after his goal.

Brunner has apologised on social media. The LFP will review the incident. He is available to face RC Lens on Friday but could receive a ban of up to four games.

“This has been a topic this week,” Luís admitted on Wednesday. He described Brunner as passionate and intense, accepted the celebration was a mistake and said they hope it does not happen again, adding the squad like him.

Luís said the player has not complained when left out and has pushed his case with actions, scoring, working for the team, pressing and defending. He added he cannot fault Brunner’s character and wants him to continue in the same vein.
