MP-SP has expanded a criminal probe into Corinthians’ recent finances, formalising an inquiry into more than R$ 1.2 million in advances allegedly paid without receipts during the presidency of Duilio Monteiro Alves.
The order, signed by prosecutor Cássio Conserino, says reimbursement and advance requests required approval from then finance leaders Wesley Melo and Roberto Gavioli. According to UOL, both are named in the case.
Melo and Gavioli have been summoned to give evidence on 18 March. A date for Duilio’s deposition has not yet been set.
The investigation also lists João Clóvis da Paixão and Valeri Maria Pauletti, owners of businesses cited in the file, on suspicion of issuing inflated or bogus invoices. They are due to testify on four March.
MP-SP has asked CAEX-CRIM to inspect two properties in Cidade Domitila, in São Paulo’s south, to confirm whether companies operate there, and to analyse staffing records. Address checks are part of the diligences.
Corinthians has been ordered to supply a detailed spreadsheet on Denílson Grilo, known as Carioca and formerly Duilio’s driver, outlining roles, employment periods and pay against duties. Materials seen by investigators cite alleged personal expenses reimbursed between 2021 and 2023.
In a related corporate card case, MP-SP has charged ex-president Andrés Sanchez with embezzlement, money laundering and falsifying a tax document, Gavioli with embezzlement, money laundering and omission, and Duilio with embezzlement. The filings await judicial decision, with the Andrés case partly accepted and appealed by MP-SP.
