The Owls are set to receive significant help from Aston Villa to land forward Louie Barry.

After such a tough last season for all connected with Sheffield Wednesday, there will be optimism that they can taste success on the pitch after such a radical chance off it.

The Owls have been reborn following a takeover by US consortium Arise Capital Partners, led by 73-year-old David Storch, whose background is in the aviation services sector.

And with the dark cloud of Dejphon Chansiri finally passing, Wednesday will be able to focus solely on building a team good enough to challenge for promotion and get back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

That aim will have its challenges though, with the Yorkshire outfit remaining under budget restrictions for the next two seasons as part of the ‘conditions of continuing membership in the EFL’.

However, funds are expected to be raised significantly to help attack the summer transfer window, with goalkeeper Pierce Charles’ impending move back to Manchester City set to provide a massive boost to the coffers.

One of the first areas Wednesday will be looking to address is bringing in a League One marksman to lead the line, with a guarantee of goals needed if the club wants to be situated towards the summit of the table under Henrik Pedersen.

And they are very interested in adding Aston Villa forward Louie Barry to their books, with a deal for the 23-year-old understood to be accelerating very quickly.

Barry would be a major coup for Wednesday to land at this level, who established himself as a potent force in League One from his time at Stockport County, netting 19 times in 32 games for the Hatters over the last two seasons.

Now, a report by The Star has detailed how generous Aston Villa are being to allow Wednesday to land the former Hull City and Sheffield United man.

As per a report by The Star, Aston Villa are set to offer Sheffield Wednesday generous help to secure Louie Barry’s move to Hillsborough.

A move to the Owls for Barry is believed to be ramping up, with the 23-year-old understood to be keen on moving permanently away from Villa Park, while former Stockport County and now Wednesday sporting director Simon Wilson spearheading this deal.

But with Wednesday’s restricted financial spending, the Premier League outfit are allowing Wednesday to pay a more moderate up-front fee, with larger future bonus payment obligations put in place, which include events of promotions into the Championship and even the Premier League.

The report states that talks with Barry are progressing to an advanced stage, with a friendly appearance against West Brom this coming weekend at St George’s Park a distinct possibility, depending on how the deal progresses.

Sheffield Wednesday will be counting their lucky stars that Aston Villa are letting them seal a deal for Louie Barry without paying a demanding immediate fee.

Getting somebody in of Barry’s ilk, who’s had tremendous success at scoring goals at this level, could be the difference maker in helping them to return to the second tier at the first time of asking, with Wednesday expected to free-flowing in the final third due to his presence in the team.

It’s also a deal that will really benefit Barry too, with stability the main thing he needs in his career right now.

The frontman has had so many loan moves away since joining Aston Villa in the winter of 2020, and with the Villains going from strength-to-strength by winning the Europa League last season, it’s difficult to see Barry ever making a first-team appearance at Villa Park again.

If Wednesday do secure Barry's signature, then they’ll be taking a player on who has had his confidence dented by unsuccessful loan spells in the second tier with Hull City and Sheffield United.

But Barry knows where the back of the net is in the third tier, and moving him into a permanent new home at Hillsborough could be just what he needs to get his mind focused, restore his confidence and see him get back on the goal-scoring trail.
