Neymar has started rehabilitation on the muscle injury suffered for Santos against Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil. The forward reposted an Instagram story from fitness coach Ricardo Rosa on Saturday, showing him doing recovery work.

According to Diario Do Peixe, he underwent tests on Friday that revealed a grade 2B injury to the rectus femoris in his right thigh, sustained during Wednesday’s match. He went off at half-time.

He began the goalless second leg at Vila Belmiro, and Santos were eliminated after a 3-0 first-leg defeat.

He is expected to return only after the FIFA international window, which runs from 24 September to six October.

That timeline means he is expected to miss Internacional, Cruzeiro and Remo in the Brasileiro, plus both matches against Atlético-MG in the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals.

Santos sit 14th in the league on 29 points from 24 games, with Vitória on 25 the highest-placed side in the drop zone. The Sudamericana quarter-final opens at Vila Belmiro, with the return at Arena MRV.
