Niclas Füllkrug has addressed his injury-hit spell at West Ham after a sharp start on loan back at Werder Bremen, scoring four in five and remaining fit at 33.

“You only have to look at my medical record: I’ve had to suffer a lot, but almost never because of muscle injuries,” he told Sport Bild.

“I can’t really explain why things went so badly for me at West Ham. England probably isn’t made for me as a type of player or as an athlete either.”

His time at West Ham was marked by repeated muscle problems, a contrast to his earlier career. He spent a year and a half in England before joining AC Milan on loan for the second half of last season.

Back in Bremen, he has stayed injury-free and made an immediate impact, a start that has pleased the hierarchy.

He remains under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2028 after a €27 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2024. “Now I just hope that everything stays the way it is.”
