Bayern have already made a strong offer to Upamecano, but there has been no breakthrough in the negotiations so far.

Now, the problem in the negotiations, we’ve heard, revolves around a potential release clause in the contract (which Upamecano’s side is pushing for). This is no problem for Bayern, as his last contract already contained a release clause of about €120m (£105.6m). The amount isn’t the big problem; the main issue is that Upamecano’s entourage wants a release clause that can be triggered in the first year of the new contract. Bayern said this didn’t make any sense, but perhaps the release clause could be activated in the second year. This was the case with Jamal Musiala. Otherwise, all parties are clear on the salary and signing fee, and the Bayern bosses are very confident they’ll get Dayot Upamecano on a new contract.

Recently, Bayern CEO Jan Christian Dreesen made it clear to Upamecano that he should decide soon whether to extend his contract in Munich.

Dreesen said at the Fanclub ‘De roud-weissen Neifinger’ in Neufahrn: “Upa has received an offer from us, which we have improved upon. This has already been discussed several times with his advisors and now again with him personally.”

Then came the clear message: “I think he should sign what he has on the table now. Because it’s not going to get any better.”

Upamecano relaxed -good news for Bayern?

After the match, Upamecano told reporters that there is no pressure on him and that no deadline has been set for when he can sign the new deal.

The Bayern defender says talks are still ongoing and is very positive that a solution will be reached soon.

Bayern fans should see this as a strong message that Upamecano wants to stay, and that both parties could reach an agreement soon.

Bayern are also keen to extend the deal of their talisman striker, Harry Kane.
