Nottingham Forest ended pre-season with a 2-0 win over Ligue One Brest at the City Ground. Luca Netz impressed and Taiwo Awoniyi received a half-time guard of honour.
Netz drew a foul from Mama Balde and Chris Wood scored the penalty, then Callum Hudson-Odoi fed Nicolas Dominguez whose first-time pass was tucked away by the full-back. According to Nottingham Post, this was their final run-out before Leeds.
At the interval the squad and staff formed a guard of honour and gave Awoniyi the bumps as he closes in on a move to Coventry City. The transfer is due in the coming days, with Forest reportedly to receive £17m.
After the break chances were scarce as Forest protected their lead. Arnaud Kalimuendo overhit a pass when trying to find Dilane Bakwa and the opening disappeared.
Oliver Glasner used the occasion to assess fringe options and the structure and intensity were encouraging. There looked to be capable depth if injuries bite.
Netz, 23, appears a bargain at £1.1m after joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in February and making seven league appearances last season. Wood’s confident spot-kick, after nearly five and a half months out with a knee injury, suggests a timely boost.
