In a significant update regarding Barcelona’s summer transfer activity, it has now been officially confirmed that the release clause of Joan Garcia has been triggered.
As per a report from Jordi Gil of SPORT, Espanyol have received official notification from La Liga that Barcelona have paid the termination clause for the 24-year-old goalkeeper.
This development was publicly shared by the Rastar Group, Espanyol’s parent company, due to their obligation to report relevant financial transactions as a listed entity in the stock exchange.
In their official statement, Rastar confirmed receiving notification from La Liga on June 14 confirming the clause payment, which includes the base €25 million along with an additional amount accounting for CPI adjustment, bringing the total to €26.3415 million.
Everything is in motion
The financial breakdown is particularly notable. Rastar disclosed that the sale of Joan Garcia will generate a net post-tax profit of no less than €18.75 million.

Furthermore, the company stated that “the proceeds from this transfer may be used to supplement the working capital needed for Espanyol’s day-to-day operations, which will have a positive impact on the company’s financial situation and operating results.”
However, while La Liga has already notified Espanyol of the payment, the transaction itself is not fully completed.
The money transfer is pending, and Espanyol have clarified that they will be closely monitoring the situation until the funds are officially received and LaLiga gives the final approval.
Green light to official announcement
Once La Liga validates the transaction in full, Barcelona will be given the green light to proceed with the official registration and presentation of Garcia.
The goalkeeper is expected to undergo a medical and sign a six-year deal until 2031 this week.
Before that, he will issue a personal statement bidding farewell to Espanyol fans, where he has spent nine years developing through their youth system.
