Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill, a standout at the World Cup, faced Santos earlier this year in the Copa Sudamericana for San Lorenzo.
Diario Do Peixe notes that Gill started both group games, a 1-1 draw in April at the Nuevo Gasómetro, then 2-2 in May at Vila Belmiro.
San Lorenzo finished third in Group D and went out. Both they and Santos ended on seven points, but Cuca's team advanced on goal difference to the play-off, with Recoleta of Paraguay topping the group.
The Albirroja squeezed into the World Cup round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams. In the group stage they lost 4-1 to the United States, beat Türkiye 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Australia.
In the knockouts against Germany, Paraguay took the lead, Germany equalised and briefly thought they had turned it around. The goal was ruled out, the tie went to extra time then penalties.
Gill saved two spot-kicks and was among Paraguay's heroes in the shootout.
The Paraguay squad also includes a Santos forward, Gustavo Caballero. In the first half of the year he lacked minutes and joined Portsmouth on loan in England, then ended the deal and could return to Santos.
