Sunderland mounted a superb second half comeback to beat Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, lifting the Black Cats into the top half. It was their penultimate Premier League fixture.
Merlin Rohl’s deflected strike gave his side a half-time lead, but Brian Brobbey equalised after the restart. Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor struck late to complete the turnaround. Sunderland Echo rated the Black Cats on the day.
Goalkeeper Robin Roefs earned seven, highlighted by a brilliant late save from O’Brien. He stayed composed under pressure and dealt with set pieces well. He could do little about the opener.
At right-back, Lutsharel Geertruida also received seven. He did not push on as much as against Manchester United last week, yet delivered a solid defensive showing.
Nordi Mukiele was steady at centre-back, likewise marked at seven. Strong in the air, he was rarely troubled by Beto, then Thierno Barry.
Omar Alderete had begun well before going off with what looked like a side injury, assessed at six. That is a worry before the final game of the campaign and with the World Cup on the horizon.
