Burnley welcome Nottingham Forest to Turf Moor this Saturday for Matchweek Five of the Premier League.
Scott Parker’s side have endured a testing return to the top division, slipping to three defeats in their opening four outings. Their single win so far keeps them narrowly clear of the relegation zone, separated only by goal difference.
Forest, meanwhile, have had a chaotic start of their own. The shock departure of Nuno Espírito Santo and the swift appointment of Ange Postecoglou has unsettled the club.
The season began on a positive note with a 3-1 triumph over Brentford, followed by a hard-fought draw against Crystal Palace, but results have since unravelled. A heavy loss to West Ham was compounded by successive defeats under Postecoglou, leaving the visitors searching for stability.
Joe Redmond (TurfCast): It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest are so early in his time there.
They played brilliant counter attacking style last season with bags of pace and quality, and were great value for their seventh placed finish - but that was before the bizarre sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Since Ange’s arrival they’ve conceded six goals in just two games, including three against Championship opposition.
In fairness he hasn’t had much time to prepare - arriving just one day before the Arsenal game - where they also conceded three.
I think this game is slightly tighter than his other two in charge of Forest - but I’m predicting Burnley to heap more misery on Ange.
Prediction: 1-0
Rich Ferraro (1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast): Ugh. This doesn't feel like it will be pretty; I can definitely understand why this has not been chosen for live TV.
Writing this in the aftermath of Forest's late Carabao Cup capitulation, the mood is understandably a bit glum for Reds fans; but there were glimmers of something exciting, especially with the liquid football that led to Igor Jesus' second goal. Of course Burnley are specialists at the shut-out, so they are going to be a tougher nut to crack.
The other thing that is obvious is that Ange has to work out not only which players he likes, but finding the best combinations; bringing on 'established' players as subs only disrupted the team's Qi. Through no real fault of his own, the pressure is on the big Aussie to find a winning formula, and fast.
