Preview: Table-toppers heading to Frankfurt | OneFootball

SC Freiburg occupy top spot in the Bundesliga, but after the 3-1 win away to Mainz, Eintracht are looking to continue their own rise up the table at Deutsche Bank Park.

Both Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg had a good weekend last time out. The Eagles put in a fine performance to win 3-1 at 1. FSV Mainz 05, while the Breisgau outfit thrashed Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-0 at home. That made it three wins in as many matches for Freiburg, which puts them top of the league. Eintracht head into Saturday’s home game on 19 September (kick-off: 15:30 CEST) ninth in the table but looking upwards. 

Opposition in fine form 

Last season’s beaten UEFA Europa League finalists have also performed well in the other competitions to date, winning 7-2 on aggregate in their Conference League qualifier against Motherwell and 5-1 in the DFB-Pokal opener at Fortuna Düsseldorf. 

“Pretty confident”

“They’re a solid group, and they’ve got wins so far against teams that they were expected to beat, but you still have to go out and get the result,” said Eintracht’s former captain Sebastian Rode after Tuesday’s training session, before adding: “We’ve had a fair bit of success against Freiburg here though, so I’m pretty confident.”

Stat: Eintracht have picked up at least a point in 12 of their past 13 Bundesliga matches against Freiburg. They are unbeaten in the last eight and have picked up ten of a possible 12 points at home during that time. 

Take the momentum

After the win and the good performance in Mainz, the Eagles go into the home meeting with SCF with some momentum. “We’ve seen how it’s done and how we can get results,” said striker Jonathan Burkardt, who added that Freiburg are “similar to Mainz, so we’ll be looking to remain compact again and focus on playing as a team. That’ll give us every chance of picking up points.”
