Goalless away draw

LASK 0-0 FC Red Bull Salzburg Women

After a recent slump in results in the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga, our team got back to picking up points, playing out a goalless draw against LASK. They were unable to return to winning ways, however, as both sides failed to convert promising chances. Ultimately, the draw reflected the balance of play.

Match summary

Our team faced some defensive pressure early on but kept things under control - with a corner drifting wide here, a cross missed by everyone there - as the attacks from the Linz side ultimately posed no real threat.

Our team became significantly more dangerous as the first half progressed. Maria Plattner managed to shake off her marker but fired the ball over the bar following a neat attacking move down the right flank. Shortly after, LASK goalkeeper Gurtner and her defenders had to put their bodies on the line to survive a golden triple chance, yet we were somehow denied a goal. The hosts shared this fate, with Guvo - who powered her way into the penalty area only to slot the ball wide of the right post - missing the final opportunity of the first half.

The match remained on a knife-edge after the break. While the busy Plattner forced goalkeeper Gurtner into another save from a wide free-kick and substitute Magdalena Schwarz sent a header just over the bar in the closing stages, the Steel City side first tried a clever corner routine - leading to a header that also flew over the target - and then looked to Guvo again, who failed to convert a move built up down the left flank. In the final moments, our team once again came closer to finding the winning goal - but ultimately, the match ended in a goalless draw.

If we had won, it would have been deserved. We had two or three good chances that we didn't take—but I am satisfied with the performance. The attitude, the mentality, and the way we pushed through the difficult phases - that was really good! It’s a point gained because it gives us confidence for the future.
