The youngster will sign a 5-year contract with the Serie A side, and the sum paid by them shows the faith the Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici and the new coach, Fabio Grosso, have put in the 19-year-old defender. They were particularly impressed by his offensive potential, aggressive defending style, versatility, physicality, and room for further growth.

Valdepenas enjoyed interest from several other sides across Europe, including the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, and Eintracht Frankfurt, but has ultimately decided to join the Viola club.
