Real Madrid’s strong representation at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup will generate a financial reward from FIFA, reports AS.

Los Blancos are expected to receive approximately $2.7 million (€2.3 million) through FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme.

15 Real Madrid players at the World Cup

Real Madrid had one of the largest contingents of players at the tournament, with 15 footballers representing their national teams.

That group included first-team players such as Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni, Antonio Rudiger, Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler and Federico Valverde, along with Endrick, who finished last season on loan at Lyon.

The club’s summer signings, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries, also featured at the tournament.

However, the Dutchman will not generate compensation because he was not yet registered as a Real Madrid player when the competition began.

How FIFA calculates the payments

FIFA compensates clubs a minimum of $5,000 per day per player. The final payment is based on the number of days each player is released for international duty, beginning with the opening of the official international window and ending the day after their country’s final match.

Players eliminated earlier generate smaller payments, while those reaching the latter stages provide significantly larger returns.

For example, Arda Guler’s group-stage exit is expected to bring the Merengues roughly $165,000, while players appearing in the World Cup final could each generate around $285,000.

In addition, FIFA will pay clubs for players who participated in qualifying matches, providing Real Madrid with approximately $222,000 (€195,000) in extra compensation.

Lower than previous international tournaments

Despite the expanded World Cup format, the overall payment will be lower than what Real Madrid received after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Following that tournament, FIFA paid the club approximately $3.8 million for releasing 12 players.

The club also earned nearly €4.8 million from UEFA after the most recent European Championship in 2024, a figure that also included compensation for Nations League participation.

Small amount compared to summer tour revenue

Although the FIFA payment is a welcome bonus, it barely compares to the income Real Madrid typically generates during the off-season through summer tours.

The club’s participation in last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup raised around €71.6 million, while the 2024 pre-season tour of the United States generated almost €15 million in commercial revenue.

Because this year’s calendar was reshaped by the World Cup, Los Blancos were unable to organise their usual international tour, making the FIFA compensation little more than a modest financial consolation.
