Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr. have been fighting over the terms of his renewal for a long time now.

Initially, their positions were far apart with the player asking for an outrageous salary, but he soon made an accommodation and came down on his demands.

The period after the FIFA Club World Cup was thus seen as the right time for Vinicius and Real Madrid to close the chapter. Just when it seemed like both parties were close to an agreement, however, some things changed and talks hit a standstill once more.

Recent months have again seen the player’s future be called into question, especially given his rift with Xabi Alonso and dissatisfaction with the Santiago Bernabeu booing him.

The plan in mind

As of January 1st, Vinicius enters the final 18 months of his contract with Real Madrid and thereby enters a period of relative concern from the point of view of the administration.

Now, AS reveal that Real Madrid and Vinicius will soon resume negotiations over a renewal. The wait is not expected to be long.

Real Madrid want the player to continue at the club despite recent rumours of his departure, and the player too wishes to stay at the club of his dreams for the foreseeable future.

The only hurdle is the financial one, and that will not be too difficult to agree on.

As it stands, there is reportedly only a 15% difference better what Real Madrid offer and what Vinicius demands – a figure that certainly feels surmountable.

A lot, however, will depend on the player’s form and relationship with the manager in the coming months.

With Kylian Mbappe injured right at the beginning of 2026, the spotlight will shine bright on the Brazilian in the coming games.

All eyes will be on him to see if he can take up the goalscoring responsibility and help Real Madrid through the difficult situation.
