Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro has opened up about his side’s impressive 2-1 victory over Barcelona, offering insight into what unfolded during one of the most talked-about matches of the week.
Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the Spaniard reflected on the fine margins that decided the contest and his own standout performance between the posts.
When asked about how the match felt from the inside, Remiro was honest about the role luck played, while also stressing that fortune often rewards preparation and positioning.
“Obviously, there was a bit of luck involved, but luck is also something you seek out.
“There are many plays that, yes, involve luck, but maybe the other player got in the way, or did enough to prevent a good shot, or you touch it, it hits the post and goes out, well, that’s because you touched it well.
“It’s true that in terms of offside and so on, if you’re pulling the line well, it’s well done, then Lamine’s goal, that’s really on the edge, but you have to seek out luck too.”
Asked directly about his display and its importance in keeping Real Sociedad in the game, Remiro responded with visible satisfaction, saying,
“Yes, very pleased. You must be happy too, right?”
Beyond the result, the match also carried extra significance due to the ongoing competition for places in the Spanish national team.
Remiro is considered a direct rival to Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García, and the two faced each other across both fixtures this season.

When questioned about whether outperforming Garcia gave him an advantage, Remiro played down the idea of one-off judgements. He explained,
“No, things aren’t measured by one match. It’s a process, it’s the growth of the players, of the people, moments of form.
“At the end of the day, he’s a Spanish player, he’s good, he’s very good, he’s very young, but the coach, in this case, Luis [de la Fuente], is the one who decides.
“It’s good to have competition because it raises the level of the goalkeeping, and whoever gets to play will be very well prepared and very well supported and surrounded, which is what we want.”
Finally, with rumours linking Remiro to a possible move to Barcelona, the goalkeeper was asked directly about his future.
However, he remained focused on the present and refused to be drawn into speculation. Addressing the links calmly, he said,
“No, now is not the time to talk about this. When a player has been playing for so long, it’s normal for teams to take notice.
“At the moment, I haven’t spoken to my representatives about this, but I’m focused on finishing the season, fighting to be in Europe, doing well, growing, continuing to improve, trying to go to the World Cup.
“I don’t have any other option. I don’t want to think or talk about anything else right now.”
