Rodinei says facing Flamengo will be an honour when Santos host the leaders at Vila Belmiro on eight October in the Brasileirão’s 29th round.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the 34-year-old right-back said he feels no weight and stressed his full commitment to Santos after seven seasons at Flamengo.
Signed in September after ending his Olympiacos deal, he agreed a contract until December 2027, with no transfer fee involved. His arrival came at coach Cuca’s request, with only Igor Vinicius fit as Gabriel Menino recovered.
Rodinei established himself in Greece and lifted the UEFA Conference League in 2024. His friendship with Bruno Henrique dates to 2012. In March 2025 the striker called him his best friend and confirmed he is godfather to one of the full-back’s daughters.
On loan at Internacional in February 2021, Rodinei was sent off against Flamengo at the Maracanã in a title deciding league match, after a supporter donated R$1 million to cover the clause allowing him to play.
Kick-off is 19:30 Brasília time on Thursday, eight October. Santos sought to bring the game forward, but Flamengo rejected the request due to players returning from the international break.
Flamengo top the table on 60 points, three clear of Palmeiras. Arrascaeta is out with a fractured left wrist and Evertton Araújo also misses out with a muscle injury.
Santos sit eighth on 38 points. There is expectation over Neymar’s return as he completes physical work, and Philippe Coutinho could make his debut.
