The future of Paulo Dybala isn’t yet completely decided, but Roma have started keeping tabs on a few attackers to potentially replace him, and they are keen on Sergio Arribas, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.
The Giallorossi hierarchy is split on what to do with La Joya. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini would like to retain him. He hopes the management will find a way to reach an agreement on a new contract. It remains to be seen whether the officials will comply and if the parties will find some common ground on the numbers.
Despite some chatter, Boca Juniors remain the frontrunners should Dybala leave Roma, while the capital club has stepped up its monitoring of Arribas.
The attacker has blossomed with Almeria in La Liga 2, totaling 20 goals and 7 assists in 33 appearances, basically doubling last season’s tallies. He grew up in Real Madrid’s youth academy and departed for €6M in 2023. He has hit the net 9 times and provided 4 helpers in 44 top-flight matches.
Things always tend to be dramatic and go down to the wire with the former. He would already be in advanced talks with another side if his exit were a fait accompli already. The coach’s stance is understandable, as he likes to have as much firepower as possible. Instead, the front office has to weigh that against the player’s age, salary, and injury history. A significant pay cut isn’t common in today’s football, but the Argentine wouldn’t be new to unusual decisions. It also shouldn’t be forgotten that his salary was rather low in his first couple of years in the Eternal City.
