Rui Costa says António Silva and Schjelderup renewals are in players' hands | OneFootball

Rui Costa used a Thursday press conference at Estádio da Luz to say contract renewals for Andreas Schjelderup and António Silva are in the players' hands.

On Schjelderup, Costa said the proposal is with the player, there is no urgency as he is not near the end of his deal, and the club will wait for his decision. According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica have offered an extension to 2031 with a significant pay rise, but he did not reply within the set deadline, leaving his future open.

Costa added that António Silva also has an offer on the table. He said the club propose renewals to those they feel deserve them, while players decide whether to accept, and he hopes Silva agrees.

Benfica remain intent on prolonging his contract, which runs until June 2027.

For a renewal, the player is seeking a salary that places him among the squad's highest earners, above 2 million euros net per season.
