Rui Costa says António Silva and Schjelderup renewals rest with players | OneFootball

Rui Costa told Benfica supporters that contract renewal offers for Andreas Schjelderup and António Silva are in the players' hands, speaking on Thursday at Estádio da Luz.

According to Glorioso 1904, he said the club will wait for their decisions and does not view the matter as urgent in Schjelderup's case.

On Schjelderup, he said discussions will resume once the player decides. Benfica have offered an extension through 2031 with a significant salary increase, but he did not reply within the set deadline and his future remains open.

On António Silva, Costa said the defender also has a renewal offer on the table. He added it is the club's job to renew those they deem to deserve it, and the players' choice to accept or not, and he hopes Silva accepts.

Benfica remain keen to prolong the No 44's contract, which runs until June 2027. For a new deal, Silva wants improved terms that would place him among the squad's best paid, above two million euros net per season.
