Sadibou Sané has settled quickly at Monaco, forming a dependable centre-back pairing with Eric Dier. The English defender had admired him before he signed.
According to Nice-Matin, their understanding traces back to Sané’s standout display against Monaco late last season.
Sané joined Metz in 2023 and spent three seasons there before moving to the Rock this summer, keeping his career in the top flight and stepping into European competition.
Metz finished bottom of Ligue 1 last season, conceding 76 goals, a bleak backdrop Sané could not avert. His profile drew scrutiny after a troubled campaign and six matches missed through suspension, the result of two overzealous tackles against Paris FC and Toulouse that brought red cards and two three-game bans.
This term he has started every Monaco match alongside Dier and has not missed a minute. The pair have conceded four goals in five games, only one in Ligue 1 before Saturday’s 17:15 trip to Strasbourg, and are meeting expectations.
After that end-of-season audition, Dier asked for Sané’s shirt and kept his name in mind. In return, Sané wanted Dier’s, later describing the senior man as a big-brother figure who is helping him settle.
A Génération Foot graduate, Sané is quick, anticipates well and reads trajectories, with early signs of better judgement in duels without losing his generosity. He is taking his place on the Rock.
