San Lorenzo’s interim president, Sergio Costantino, says the club dreams of signing Neymar and wants idol Paulo Silas to try to persuade him after the Brazilian’s visit to Argentina for Santos’ Sudamericana tie.

The third-round group-stage draw in Buenos Aires was notable for the warm reception Neymar received from San Lorenzo supporters and players. Local daily Olé ran with the headline, "Bomba no San Lorenzo: ídolo quer tentar Neymar".

Costantino added that Silas has offered to act as a go-between for any approach. Neymar is under contract with Santos until 31 December 2026.

"I watched the match in Brazil with Paulo, and he told me he would take charge of convincing Neymar. It would be an honour for us. We need to talk, but perhaps it is the crazy ideas that make the difference," he told TNT Sports.

Costantino said the way Neymar was treated in Argentina had encouraged people at the club, and that Silas was energised after the stadium visit, keeping alive hopes of bringing the forward closer to San Lorenzo in future.
