Santos resume training as Coutinho steps up return bid | OneFootball

Santos resumed training on Thursday ahead of their Campeonato Brasileiro schedule after four days off, with Philippe Coutinho stepping up by joining the main group on the pitch.

According to Globo.com, the midfielder has not played since February while at Vasco. He could be included to face São Paulo on 2 October, although there is a greater chance of involvement on 8 October against Flamengo at Vila Belmiro.

Barreal is close to being ready for the next match. The Argentine attacker had been nursing a left hamstring issue suffered three weeks ago but is now recovered, having joined the opening drill and completed physical transition on the pitch.

Willian Arão remains a doubt. He had hoped to return to outdoor work but is still in physiotherapy with internal oblique pain after missing the Remo game. He trained in two sessions, at home and at the club, and could replace the suspended Luan Peres.

His availability will be short term. He will not face Flamengo on 8 October, with all parties agreeing he will not play against his former club this year despite his contract termination there.

Neymar remains out. The number 10 has completed three weeks of recovery from a right thigh injury and will continue treatment. There is a slim chance he is available on 8 October, with mid to late October the more likely window.
