Fabio Grosso has left Sassuolo by mutual consent, clearing the way for the 2006 World Cup winner to take charge at Fiorentina, with confirmation expected imminently.
The club said in a statement that the parties had agreed a mutual termination and thanked Grosso and his staff for two seasons that delivered promotion to Serie A and an 11th-place finish this season.
The Italian coach had signalled his intention to depart some time ago, and the separation has now been formalised.
Fiorentina have had an agreement with Grosso’s entourage for several weeks, a two-year contract worth about €1.2 million per season, with an option for a third year.
They were waiting for Sassuolo to release him before making the appointment official. With Grosso now free of obligations, sporting director Fabio Paratici can finalise the deal without delay.
The appointment will reunite Grosso with Paratici, who gave him his first coaching opportunity in Juventus’s youth academy.
It signals a new era at the Stadio Franchi after a deeply frustrating campaign under Stefano Pioli and Paolo Vanoli.
