Brought through at Angers, the Guinean is in the process of naturalisation and was on France Under-21s’ radar in March. He played 36 matches for the French side, scoring four.

Coventry were the best team in the Championship last season and are coached by English legend Frank Lampard.

Fenerbahçe have strengthened in Chérif’s position in recent days by completing the signing of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, 33, who was eliminated in the World Cup quarter-finals this summer against Spain.

Fenerbahçe will face Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League play-offs on 18 August in Türkiye and on 26 August in France.
