Sporting Club de Bastia have parted company with Réginald Ray, who took over in November to keep the side in Ligue 2. The club said in a statement the split was by mutual consent, adding that the 57-year-old showed professionalism and daily commitment.
The move comes with Bastia facing relegation to Ligue 3 after the match against Le Mans was halted at 0-2. A disciplinary commission is due to decide on Wednesday, following late incidents, which will confirm the club’s official fate.
Ray, familiar with the club, accepted the role when Bastia were bottom of the table. His brief was to avoid relegation that still looked achievable at that stage.
Safety remained in sight for long spells, but the objective has ultimately slipped away.
On the final day, Laval beat Boulogne 2-1 to climb to 16th place, which carries a play-off spot.
