Stat Proves Messi Stands Alone in South American Qualifiers
For the first time in his illustrious career, Lionel Messi's finished World cup qualifying campaign as the outright top scorer.
According to Opta, the 38 year old Argentina captain & Inter Miami forward netted 8 goal in 12 match driving the Albiceleste to the top of the South American standings.
Trailing Messi were Bolivia’s Miguelito & Colombia’s Luis Diaz both with 7 goal each.
Argentina were joined by Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay in securing direct spots. Bolivia'll contest the intercontinental playoff for place in the tournament.
Speaking recently about his career, Messi admitted:
"I don’t want this to end but I know the moment's coming. When the time comes, I’ll face it. For now, I’ll keep moving forward, step by step and enjoy each day"
Despite his record breaking form, Messi's yet to confirm whether he will play at the 2026 World cup stressing that his decision will depend on his physical condition at the time.
