As reported by Sunderland Echo, Sunderland non-executive director Leo Pearlman congratulated David Bruce on becoming Sheffield Wednesday’s chief executive and reacted positively to the club’s takeover by Arise Capital Partners.

Bruce was confirmed as Wednesday’s CEO after leaving his post as Sunderland’s chief business officer, his departure having been announced last month amid a wider organisational restructure.

Pearlman praised Wednesday as a club with rich history, identity and support, recalling the play-off semi-final at Hillsborough against Sunderland as one of the best atmospheres he has experienced.

He highlighted Bruce’s role in reconnecting Sunderland with its city and supporters, rebuilding pride and putting fans back at the heart of the club. He also noted similarities between Sunderland and Wednesday, proud working-class cities with fanbases that value authenticity and connection.

The message credited Arise Capital Partners for making fan relations the top priority and said the appointment aligns with that aim. It expressed confidence that Bruce and Wednesday would be back where they belong before too long, alongside Sunderland in the Premier League.
