Sunderland are braced for a pivotal window after a seventh-place finish secured Europa League football and at least eight extra league phase games next season.

Sunderland Echo reports that, with the window opening on Monday, Sunderland’s only confirmed business is departures, with Bertrand Traore, Dan Neil, Dennis Cirkin and Niall Huggins leaving at the end of their contracts.

Targets have been linked in recent weeks, including Marseille midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, RB Salzburg winger Kerim Alajbegovic and Sweden defender Emil Holm, but no arrivals have been announced.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Tottenham have added Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, Newcastle have signed Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £18.5m, and Brentford have brought in Jannik Schuster from Red Bull Salzburg for £16.5m.

Ipswich Town have landed Chuba Akpom from Ajax for £7m and Cedric Kipre from Reims for an undisclosed fee, while Arsenal have Reiss Nelson back after a loan.

There have been notable exits too, with Liverpool parting company with Mohamed Salah after a mutual termination, and Andy Robertson joining Tottenham, while Manchester United have sold Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli for £38m.

With three months of trading ahead, attention on Wearside will turn to reinforcing Regis Le Bris’s squad once the market opens.
