Sunderland’s summer business is framed by clear dates, with the 2026 transfer window opening on Monday, June 15 and closing at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1. According to Sunderland Echo, clubs can plan now for a busy market.

The Black Cats sealed Europa League qualification with a final-day home win over Chelsea, guaranteeing the Stadium of Light will host competitive European football for the first time.

Regis Le Bris faces a hectic campaign, with at least eight extra matches in the league phase of UEFA’s secondary competition alongside Juventus, Marseille and AC Milan. That tally could rise with progress into the knockout rounds, and further domestic runs would add to the load.

Former Sunderland defender Darren Williams has warned that depth will be essential to cope. The club have already been linked with a wide range of potential signings ahead of the window.

Exits are also being discussed, with Wrexham said to be monitoring goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. Forward Eliezer Mayenda is reportedly drawing interest from Championship newcomers West Ham United.

Deals may be agreed in advance, but player registrations only go through once the window opens. The deadline has been pushed back from 7pm in recent years to 11pm this time, and the deal sheet can grant a two-hour extension. For an 11pm cut-off, it cannot be filed before 9pm and must land before the window closes, giving clubs until 1am to finalise paperwork.
