Police intervention has been required during the DFB-Pokal first round clash between SV Waldhof Mannheim and 1.FC Kaiserslautern this evening.
As the final whistle sounded at the Carl-Benz-Stadion after a 0-0 draw, Marlon Ritter clashed with several members of the SV Waldhof team resulting in a fracas.
Chaos now reigns in the terraces as flares are thrown from the away section towards the main stand, prompting Mannheim supporters to attempt to storm the pitch.
Referee Robert Schröder promptly sent both teams to the tunnel, while police on horseback took to the field using pepper spray to prevent Mannheim fans accessing the pitch.
The hotly contested game took on a fierce edge from the first minute as two broken chairs were launched in the direction of Kaiserslautern goalkeeper Julian Krahl.
