How did we play?
Norwich City are quite good at football at the moment, aren’t they? After what felt like two points dropped on Friday, this ended up being a thoroughly professional win against strong opposition, proving, in my opinion, that we really do have the makings of a serious promotion contender next season.
Most impressive for me was our ability to effectively manage the closing stages of the game. We were solid in defence, nipping any attacks in the bud, and masterfully ran down the clock.
There is still room for improvement. The first half felt a little flat compared to the last few matches, where we have looked stronger before the break. There were a good number of missed chances, and we really need to improve the quality of our corners. But we came away with the points, and that’s what matters.
What was the best bit of the game?
Not the most original choice, but it has to be the second goal. It might not have been the prettiest, but seeing as I went into the game expecting to come away with no points, I don’t think I have much choice but to pick the moment that secured us all three.
What was the worst bit of the game?
If only there was a way to win without helping another side vying for an automatic spot. Not to worry though, we can put a dent in their aspirations on Saturday.
What was the atmosphere like?
It had all the makings of a scintillating atmosphere. A sold-out home crowd, with the weight of expectation on their side as Millwall try to claw their way back to the top flight for the first time since 1990. An all too familiar tension in the air was released like a pressure valve when the Lions opened the scoring. The limbs were impressive from the south London faithful, and the lack of performativity in them showed just how much the goal meant. Such a shame we spoiled their party.
Despite being split over two tiers, the 3000-strong away end made itself heard, with the noise ramping up as Norwich took the lead. Meanwhile, the decibels from the other three stands wound down as home fans watched the match slip from their grasp.
Hero of the match
Touré’s assists for both goals not only represent fantastic individual skill through his vision and technique to spot and execute the vital final pass, they also represent the togetherness and understanding in this team that has seen our form so dramatically transformed.
