Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero will not be in attendance for the Premier League game against Everton on Sunday, according to South American football expert Tim Vickery.
Spurs will be desperate to pick up all three points against the Toffees at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their final game of the season.
A victory will keep them up, but Romero will not be in England as he is currently in Argentina.
The defender is currently injured following a knee injury in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland last month.
Romero has been at some Spurs games since then, but has opted to head home and could have played his last game for the club.
“He will be at the final of the Argentine Championship between Belgrano and River Plate,” Vickery said on talkSPORT today.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi would have given the Spurs captain permission to leave, but it could also be the biggest hint that his future lies elsewhere.
He has been tipped to leave the club even if they stay up, and he will not be short of suitors in the summer transfer window.
Romero spent four years at Belgrano, having joined them as a youth player before leaving for Genoa in 2018.
The 28-year-old had to choose between watching the Everton game on Sunday or returning home to watch the final of the Argentine top-flight for the season.
Romero opted for the latter, and Tottenham fans will not be impressed.
Spurs have to win on Sunday without the support of their captain from the sidelines, and De Zerbi will fancy their chances.
They will be relegated if they lose and West Ham United defeat Leeds United.
