Wolves will be spending their 150th season in the Championship, and they'll be hoping to celebrate it in style with perhaps a few familiar faces joining them.

Indeed, Raul Jimenez has been linked with a rather surprising return to Molineux, with his contract at Fulham set to expire in the coming weeks.

The 35-year-old is held in high regard at Wolves, spending five seasons at the club and playing a key role in their run to the Europa League quarter-finals in the 2019/20 campaign. Overall, he played 166 times for the Old Gold, more than he has anywhere else, netting 57 times.

Having spent the last three years at Craven Cottage, the Mexican international has had to watch from afar as Wolves succumbed to relegation this past season, ending their eight-year top-flight stay.

Some fans are dreaming of him possibly returning home to help get them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

With the sesquicentennial anniversary of the football club this coming season, there's been some anticipation over what Wolves' new shirt will look like to commemorate it.

Wolves fans will have to wait until Friday to find out officially, but there have been numerous concept kits shared around and "leaked" images that have stoked excitement, especially given who has been spotted modelling the shirt in said images.

Indeed, behind-the-scenes style pictures have been circling of Jimenez being photographed in the new kit on X, with some optimistic Wolves fans hoping that they may be making an announcement of his return alongside the shirt, which would go a long way towards getting people excited about the upcoming campaign.

Unfortunately for those dreamers, Liam Keen of the Express and Star has burst their bubble, stating that the image is fake in a quote tweet to the original post.

He does go on to state that Wolves have had conversations with the Mexican frontman over a return, and he's due to make a decision this summer, which is what has previously been reported, anyway.

Wolves continue to await hopeful good news surrounding Raul Jimenez's return

Despite the theory of Wolves unveiling Jimenez alongside the new anniversary shirt being debunked, there'll still be some hope and optimism that the 35-year-old might be tempted to see out the final years of his career back at Molineux.

The frontman represents the best of the recent decade at Wolves, so after a wholly disappointing and demoralising year, it would make sense to bring Jimenez back just to bring up morale ahead of their Championship return.

But that's not all, as, alongside sentimental reasons, the 35-year-old could still play a key role in a promotion push, despite his age.

Jimenez started 27 times in the Premier League last season and scored nine times. The season before, he played a part in every league outing and found the back of the net 12 times.

Alongside a killer instinct from the penalty spot, the Mexican is still a solid frontman in open play in the top flight, so a drop to the Championship could provide a base to score in the double digits once more and perhaps even challenge for the Golden Boot if he can stay healthy.

He may not be announced later this week, but there'll still be some hope that Wolves can secure his signature once more in the coming month. On a free transfer, there may not be many better strikers that a Championship side could sign.
