Spain intensified preparations for Sunday’s decisive meeting with Saudi Arabia, and a light-hearted spat between Unai Simón and Nico Williams livened up Wednesday’s session.
According to El Correo, the Athletic team-mates were taking part in a rondo when Williams failed to intercept cleanly and played the ball twice before releasing it. Simón, in the middle, challenged the play.
Footage showed Williams had touched it twice, which by the drill’s rules meant he should have moved into the centre and allowed Simón out. The winger denied any infringement, repeating his stance several times.
The goalkeeper did not lose his cool and chose not to extend the exchange. He told his team-mate there was no need to swear, as the ball had touched him, then training continued.
La Roja need a win after their opening setback against Cabo Verde, and the competitive edge around the camp is evident. They face Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
