Valencia CF have gone 40 days without adding to their squad since announcing Ryunosuke Sato from Tokyo FC on 7 July, leaving key gaps one week before LaLiga begins.

According to Superdeporte, the collapse of a move for Thomas Meunier stalled plans, with right-back listed as the next priority after Sato. That role, long a problem area, remains unresolved in mid August.

The fixation on the full-back slot has pushed back urgent business on the wings and other areas. Targets have shifted from low cost to higher calibre after Financial Fair Play room increased when Peter Lim approved capitalising debt with himself.

The ‘Arnau case’ is now the most active. With an agreement already in place with the Catalan player, attention has turned to softening Girona’s stance, as they want Valencia to approach the eight million in his release clause, split between fixed and variable payments.
