Vasco have lost a court bid to stage their Copa do Brasil quarter-final against Vitória at the Maracanã after the stadium’s operators refused permission, according to Coluna Do Fla.

Vasco SAF filed action against Fla-Flu Serviços S.A., which runs the ground with Flamengo and Fluminense, but the 3rd Civil Court of the Santa Cruz Regional, overseen by judge Talita Bretz Cardoso de Mello, ruled against the club.

Flamengo and Fluminense argued the week from 23 to 29 August was reserved for pitch recovery, so the Vasco match on Wednesday 26 could not be held at the Maracanã.

Vasco cited a Memorando de Entendimentos signed with Flamengo and Fluminense, with Fla-Flu Serviços’ assent, setting conditions for the São Januário side to use the stadium in 2026. The document allows four matches in the season, subject to availability and agreed operational terms.

The club believes the Vitória tie fits those terms, but the consortium declined approval, prompting the legal move. The quarter-final is scheduled for Wednesday 26 in Rio, so the venue decision is significant for planning. Vasco intend to appeal.
